How do you share pictures and files with your friends over the internet. You upload them to services like flickr or rapidshare and your friends downloaded from there. But now you can share them right from your desktop directly. It is by converting your PC to a web server using the latest release from Opera, Opera Unite.
It’s very simple.
- Download and install the new Opera Unite
- Log in using your existing myOpera account or create a new one.
- Start the service and select the folders or files to share
- Set the access controls. There are 3 levels of access controls Public
- Public – Anyone can access your files
- Limited – You can protect files with a password and only those who know it can access files
- Private – only you can access files.
- Share your url with others and enjoy.
Note that others can access your files only when your computer is on, connected to the internet and you are running the Opera Unite Service.
Also your file are stored or cached no where on the internet.

Opera Unite looks promising. It can act both as a server and a client. With lots of people having access to broadband connections, this can add a new dimension to the social networking and sharing phenomenon.
