Microsoft Bing
Bing is the new search engine from Microsoft that is still out in Beta. It is as simple as using Google but if you haven’t yet used it here are some tips that may help you.
Bing.com
- The basic interface is pretty similar to that of Google expect there is a background image that is specific to your region.
- There is your region specified at the top (here India), you can click on that and change your region if needed.
- For India the background image is not interactive but if you change your region to US you will see an interactive background image. Hope that will come to India soon.
- There is the search suggestion option similar to that in Google which you may turn off.
Search Results
- One new feature of Bing is showing Snippets from search results. When you hover your mouse over any search result a snippet of that result with some useful links shown.
- A list of Related Searches are displayed on the left side of search results.
- And of course there are some sponsored sites (ads) along with the results but a different background is used (here a light yellow)
Image Search
- The images results are displayed in a very clean interface with just images and not any links
- When you hover over any image the size and the url will be displayed along with options show similar images and feedback on this image are shown. Feedback is a feedback to Bing like reporting inappropriate results.
- There are lots of options on the left side to show the results according to size, layout, color etc.
- Another interesting feature is that unlike Google all the results are displayed in the same page but without making the user to wait until they are loaded fully.
- There is an option to choose the layout of how the search result should be displayed at the top right side.
Video Search
- Showing video preview within the results page is a great feature of Bing video search. When you hover mouse over any results they will be played from within the results page.
- Similar to images results there are a lots of options for search results like length, resolution, video source (like YouTube,MSN) etc.
Bing xRank
xRank is a trade mark feature of Bing that is essentially ranking celebrities according to the search trend. This is again region specific. You can access xRank from the ‘more’ option at the top of any page.
Bing Webmaster
Webmasters can submit their sites at Bing Webmaster . You can use your live id to login and can submit your sitemap.
